How I made $90 my first week affiliate marketing

How I Made $90 My First Week Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a hot buzz word right now, with bloggers and online entrepreneurs looking to monetize their sites with affiliate links. Not to be left out, savvy side hustlers are making claims they can earn affiliate income without a website. So of course, I’m like, “I want to know how to start affiliate marketing and make some cash too!”

Curious about this passive income revolution, I purchased a copy of How To Make Your First Affiliate Sale in 24 Hours (Now called “Paid By Pinterest). This ebook explains the process of becoming an affiliate and how to market your affiliate links in a way that gets you sales and income. The book was not expensive at all compared to some of the affiliate marketing courses and masterclasses I’d seen. I figured it was a good way to get a look at the process and test the waters.

I read the book, nodded a few times, and tucked it away in my computer files, not to be thought about for a few months. At the time, I was working full time, dealing with kids moving home from college, kids moving out into their own place, kids moving back from other states, and trying to keep up with the rest of my normal life.

To really give this sideline the attention it needed, I needed more space in my brain than I had at the moment.

Fast forward six months

The kids had all settled into their new residences, and I was enjoying the bliss of winter when I don’t have to think about yard work. While I hate the cold, I do love that I don’t have to do gardening or pull weeds for five months, and I love that I can decline invitations because of the snow and ice. I’m a homebody. If I don’t have to leave, I don’t want to, so winter is my refuge.

Christmas was winding down and the decorations had been put away. Our one college kid who is still at home on breaks went back to school. The youngest step went back to his mom’s after Christmas break. The house was quiet. My schedule was quiet. I had time to think.

And I thought, “I wonder what would happen if I tried some affiliate marketing methods from that book I bought back in the summer?” I’d been thinking about starting a blog—this blog. Could affiliate income fund the purchase of hosting and a domain and a theme and all that other jazz that comes with blogging?

I got out How To Make Your First Affiliate Sale in 24 Hours and reviewed the methods. I created a few pins, uploaded them to Pinterest, and went about my life.

Bam! Instant results!

I sit down to read my email the next day and I see three identical emails with the subject “Woot! Woot! You made a sale!” I click on the emails and read. Lo and behold, my pins led to three people purchasing the book overnight. I made $30.00 while I slept simply from posting a pin on a few boards.

The sales inspired me, so I re-pinned my pins a few more places and within a day my email box began pinging again. More sales. I re-pinned to a few more boards and got a couple more sales. I was amazed! This really worked. From one Friday to the next, I’d made $90.00.

Here’s a screen shot of my Sendowl dashboard to show you the proof so you know I’m not making this up. I earn $10.00 for every sale and I received 9 sales from one Friday to the next in January.

Earn Money Affiliate Marketing How I Made $90 in my first week of affiliate marketing

By the end of the month, I’d earned more than $160! That was enough money to buy my hosting package with Host For Web, pay for my first month of Tailwind and get my blog rolling.

I want to learn more about that book!!!

Before this experiment, I was pretty skeptical about the claims that you could earn income while you sleep. Now I’m a believer.

Why I was successful

Looking back I recognize that I did a few things in advance of my affiliate marketing debut that set me up for success. I’d been hoping to start this blog one day when life calmed down a bit. When I had small bits of time, I had been making preparations to work toward that goal.

I had set up my Pinterest business profile and done some Search Engine Optimization and keywording that was targeted at the audience I intended to serve. Those preparations helped contribute to my success that first week of affiliate marketing. If you want to know more about that I have a FREE course on Pinterest marketing you can sign up for here.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Carl! I stopped by your blog and read your income statement for January. Inspiring! I am debating whether to do income statements here. I’m leaning toward “yes” because I know other bloggers love to see progress reports. I know I do. Thanks for sharing your journey!

    1. Thank you Audrey! I hope you gained some info you could use to help you in your efforts!

  2. Hello Lisa! Thank you for sharing this post! I found it very helpful! I did have a question regarding the pinning for the course “How to Make you first Affilaite Sale in 24 Hours.” Did you just post an image/pin of the ebook and then link the pin to the Affilate link, or did you link the pin to your blog where you wrote a post pertaining to the ebook? I hope this makes sense!
    Thank you!

    1. Vikki, Thanks for stopping by and visiting the blog! As for your question, I do some of both. I like to write articles about or mention affiliate products in my posts, but I also make up pins that link directly to the sales pages for the products. By making use of several affiliate marketing strategies, I find it helps to increase exposure and sales. I hope that helps!
